The map below is a map of the levels of deprivation throughout the UK but centred on Gorse Hill Ward. The darker the red, the more deprived a neighbourhood is; and the darker the blue the less deprived.
These measures of deprivation are not just based on poverty but bring together a number of indicators such as health and other measures. Despite the garish colours, it is useful information in demanding services or funding. And whilst it's not that easy to recognise the places at first, you can clearly see the border with Salford turning a dark red; and scrolling south, unmistakably Bowdon and Hale brings the darkest blue.
